Wow! I had to read the banner at the top a couple times to really believe
that this is really Volume TEN of these issues. It doesn't seem possible
that we'll have been open to the public for 9 years this February 14th.

This also means Annual Expies are coming up quickly and I hope everyone
will take the time to help make them a success by participating in both
the nomination and final balloting processes as well as by joining us for
our Ninth Anniversary celebrations. The back issues of the LT are a great
way to brush up on the events and changes of the past year. And the more
members of the community that participate in the whole process, the more
successful it will be.

Thinking back over the past year, I think we've made a lot of tentative
first steps in directions we want to move in. However, those steps seem
very cautious and not always followed through as well as they could be.
We all need to be better about encouraging the things we like and
discouraging the things we don't like as part of our community. If you
see someone doing something that amuses or pleases you, let them know! If
a game or even that an immortal runs entertains you, let them know so it
can be planned to be run again.

Remember, the immortals make the world possible, but it's the players who
bring the spark of life to it and the community that has grown within it
over the years. Please take a few moments during this time of reflection
and self-evaluation that New Year's represents for so many people and
consider how you can improve your involvement in this awesome community.

                      Looking for Entertainment?

People must not be partying or something 'cause I ain't getting any gigs.
Who wouldn't want to party?  There's so many things to celebrate for
anyways! There's birthdays, bar mitzvahs, anniversaries, holidays,
everything. You lose a tooth? Have a party! Hire a cute little gypsy
chick, let her do some fancy-smancy dancing, slip her some ale under the
table, and everyone has a good time! It's not like I haven't been
practicing.

I once had this gig performing in the Royal Stag, this place with a faint
musty smell, but the tables were clean. There was only a few patrons,
most of them wallowing with a mug of something-or-other in front of them.
Well, ok, it really wasn't a gig. I took it upon myself to do a little
piece I call the Santra for them, to brighten their spirits. It wasn't
too elaborate. A lot of spins, twirls, jumping on my toes, blah blah blah.
The folks seemed to dig it though, and I got coins thrown at me from all
sides.  What happened to those days?

So if you're looking to throw a party, don't forget to hire your nightly
entertainment! And feel free to slide a drink or two under the table.

There are currently 14 RP clans and 10 PK clans. This leaves open slots
for eight (8) more clans to form. For more information, read HELP CLAN and

Every clan had at least one member active in pkill again in the past
week. The Grendels had the most with over half their members active and
were closely followed by the Panuccis who only had one member who wasn't
accounted for this past week. The Syndicate seems to be back in action
with a majority of their members out on the fields of battle. A few
members of the IRA found themselves in the middle of the action and a few
Infernals were seen trying to uphold their once powerful reputations. The
Secretives and Knights each had a pair of representatives championing
their respective causes and single members of the Hermetic Order, the
Grand Coven, and the School of Hard Knocks were seen in battle this week.

This past week there were 127 pkill-related deaths involving 54 different
characters. Of those 54 characters, 34 of them were accept all at the
time. So come on, let's get YOUR name up in lights! We can't report on it

                     A Fragile Yet Deadly Alliance

After a duration of a few days, Warlord Zegron, decided that it was time
for some field testing. He directed the cyborg up the stairs and out into
the world beyond...

The cyborg walked to the nearest town, quickly slaughtering anyone and
everyone. His new additions were deemed worthy. Gathering a bag of
supplies for his organic parts the cyborg headed out along the path to
continue with his quest.

The path was long and narrow, consisting only of dirt. Heavy feet created
deep footprints, even in the dried soil. Slowly he trudged on, not
entirely sure of how to go about his task. Noticing night came in the
middle of the day, he looked up for possible reasons. There was no
eclipse, nor was one scheduled in this area for another fifty years.
Turning around, he noticed the cause of the darkness. Heaven's death
angel approached. 'Estimated time for contact: ten minutes,' the voice in
his head reported. Ignoring this development, the cyborg continued along
the path.

Exactly ten minutes later the cyborg turned. The angel was no more than 2
metres away. His eye zoomed in and out as he judged the threat of this
angel. Long had he noted that this angel had been tailing him. What for
he did not know. No words were uttered, nor did they speak
telepathically. Kasdeja used her off worldly powers to slightly heal the
cyborg. Realising that she posed no threat, but instead could help him,
at least for the moment, one word was uttered. The voice was cold like
ice, hard like iron and left a ringing sensation in ones ear, 'Come...,'
and she did. Together they formed a fragile yet deadly alliance. The
nearest town was only a few hours away...

                            A Great Loss

Heegy stood and adjusted her light leafmail shirt. She had recently left
Aganai on a short mission to talk to a group of Nomadic humans. The
humans claimed to have her brother Queegy Rockcrusher, the ambassador of
her King, King Ridic. Since it was that females were only metal workers
she was lucky. She was the daughter of the only dwarf mage in Aganai, so
she was high rank in the community. She was also the only female General
Aganai has ever seen. The king had sent his best warrior to meet the
humans, so naturally he sent her. She was in no place to argue, and
neither did she want to.

Heegy was tall for dwarf standards, her abdomen was long, skinny, and
muscular. Her dark, flame-red hair was held tightly at bay by her
full-face helm.

Over her leafmail shirt, she wore a black leather long coat. On her legs
she wore a pair of plate mail leggings. Her large feet wore a pair of
rabbit fur-lined leather boots. Her hands were hidden by a pair of black
metal gauntlets. At her side lay her large double-bladed bone dagger. She
resembled one of her Ragers, a small contingent of crazy dwarves that
fought like a very large army. She chuckled at the thought of a fight
between the Ragers and the humans, what a one sided battle it would be.

She neared her journeys middle, soon she would be at her destination.
With any luck she would get her brother without consequence. Though she
knew it would be different. She hated killing, even though it was her
job. Two surface winters ago she was in a bad battle with a large group
of Orcs. After the Orcs had attacked and killed everyone of a small
dwarven border patrol of her best warriors. In that war, an arrow crashed
into her leg, severing one of her tendons. Aganai's chief shamans had
worked on her for weeks. Afterwards, she felt like new -- she could run
and jump better than she could before.

The room she was in was hot and damp, leaving her body sweating and
sticky. Not a good mix she thought to herself. She ducked under a large
boulder that jutted from the ceiling of the large black cavern.

Ahead about a mile or so, she could see a small patch of golden ray's
that poured from a crack in the walls. Heegy sighed loudly, and removed a
small canteen of shaman blessed water from her soft leather backpack and
took a sip. She replaced the canteen in the backpack and removed a small,
broken loaf of bread. She nibbled on the bread a little and placed it
back in the pack. Fully rejuvenated, she walked towards the light,
drawing her large, razor-sharp bone dagger.

The light came closer as she walked to it. She got a bad feeling as she
neared its golden rays. She closed in on the golden rays, stopping before
them. She pondered for a time, she lifted a small stone that sat near her
large boot. She threw the stone through the light and watched it
disintegrate before her eyes. So this is the spot King Ridic was talking
about, she thought to herself.

'Now what did he tell me to do,' she said lightly to herself.

'Ahh here we are,' she said to herself again, giggling a little.

She took hold of a mirror that was hinged to the wall. She pushed the
mirror into the light, reflecting it back to were it came. She walked
past and began her descent down the underground hill and out the entrance
to the underdark.

There stood one man and a short dirty dwarf wearing tattered, bloody
robes. The dwarf's eyes grew with happiness. He stood and went to walk to
her and hug her. The human eyed the dwarf and motioned him to sit. Queegy
stopped and pondered a second. He sat quickly after the human stood and
whapped him in the back of the head.

'Sit,' the human yelled angrily.

Heegy growled in rage. She rushed behind the human placing her bone
dagger in his back, severing his spinal cord. The human fell to the
ground paralyzed.

Another human that stood behind a small mountain tree let fly the arrow
that was trained on Heegy's chest. The arrow crashed into her chest. The
arrow ricocheted of the mithril leafmail shirt, striking a nearby tree.
Heegy rushed at the man and kicked him in the chest. The man tumbled
backward down the hill and over a ridge. He hit the ground with an audible
smack. The human that lay paralyzed blinked in disbelief. Heegy walked
over to the helpless man and dispatched him quickly, slicing his throat.
Queegy rushed at her, almost tackling her to the ground. Tears flowed
from his large blue oval eyes.

'Ohh Heegy it was horrible, for the first day they beat me until I was
unconscious' he cried, tears flowing.

From behind an arrow pierced through Queegy's heart. Queegy's eyes went
wide in horror. Blood poured from his mouth. Queegy fell over dead; Heegy
growled into a battle rage. She rushed at the human who killed her
brother. She stabbed the human repeatedly in the chest, rage pouring out
of her into her bone dagger, the dagger began to glow bright red, she
stuck the dagger into the man's chest and stood back. She watched as the
dagger exploded making the corpse explode. The dagger magically pieced
itself together as if it had never exploded. Heegy bent and picked up the
dagger that lay there. She placed the dagger in her belt. She lifted the
corpse of her brother and threw it over her shoulder. Heegy started back
on the three day journey home to her land, Aganai. All of Aganai would
mourn for the death of her brother.

                        Stuff -- and stuff?

Ever read one of those really cheesy fantasy stories where the hero
hears about an evil overlord and boldly saunters off to kick some
archvillain butt and returns with mucho damage to his clothes and the
bad guy's head in one hand? Much happiness and rejoicement in the
village and the hero gets to marry the mayor's blond daughter. Woohoo.

My buddy Lawrence grew up on that kind of pulp drivel. He devoured
second-hand books faster than other people eat cheeseburgers. He has
that whole hero thing down pat. Self-sacrifice, standing up against the
evil outside and the evil within, the journey with companions of varying
qualities to the archvillain's castle and the ultimate battle between
good and evil. To be continued next week on the sci-fi channel.

Can you imagine anyone more suited for the role of poor assaulted maiden
than the nun, Sister Trinity d'Arpajon? You'd be hard pressed, I bet.
Anyways, that's what Lawrence felt when she stopped trying to kill him
long enough to explain that she had been nearly killed by an ancient,
evil, you-name-it vampire. Larry packed up his trusty stakes and hiking
boots and off he was to whack a vampire. Exit right, musical score
playing the hero's crescendo to soft fade-out.

Well, wasn't that nice. I mean, the first couple of days I sat around
waiting at our cabin I wasn't all that worried. Lawrence is like, a big
kid and all that, he can take care of himself. After a week I began to
get worried. After four weeks I went looking for him in his usual other
hideouts. Not a trace of elf knight there. After six weeks I went back
to Denali to make sure he hadn't stopped by and like, left a note, and
what do you think I found? The entire cabin gone, only a few smoking
ruins remaining. Even Lady Dechtire's cast iron bath tub was missing, I
mean, get real, what kind of burglar makes off with a bath tub.

So I sat around a while. Hey, I'm small, even for a sprite, running all
over like that isn't something I do just for the fun of it. I tried to
save some of the garden flowers but if there's one thing I have it's an
innate ability to kill plants.

Finally, after seven weeks, Larry showed up. Man, he looked like
something the local lynx had chewed on, let its kittens chew on, and
then left for dead and indigestible and too altogether yucky to get its
paws dirty burying. He didn't say a word, just sat among what remained
of the kitchen and looked pale and beat.

I guess that in the real world, the heroes don't always win. Besides,
Lady Dechtire would make a really bad mayor's daughter.

                         The Quest Is Complete

I entered this world in a state of confusion. Having just completed my
first reincarnation, I still had thoughts from my previous life jumbled
in my mind with the realism of my newfound existence. 'Did George Lucas
create my world?' 'Why do I feel this emptiness and lack of a male role
model?' It was only after much wandering and many questions that I began
to become more clear. My reincarnation was in fact a result of my
'father' (TheThing) struggling to be free of the bonds of player kill.
The demands it placed upon him, and the dastardly deeds it required him
to perform gave him such angst, such trials and tribulations, that I was
ripped from the pages of a novel and brought to life.  The gentle, kind,
healing side of my father, I was thrust into this world to counteract his
deeds.

Shortly after I began to understand my purpose in this world, I met a
woman who adopted me as her own son, took me under her wing and taught me
the ways of druids. The Lady Bronwyn took me all over the world, through
time transformations and into the depths of the earth itself (The
Inferno) to show me the halls of the druids gone before. Magic I had
learned, but healing was to be my calling. She taught me to appreciate
the beauty of this world, and to pet the hedgehogs, not butcher them. I
was told never to fight with the pookah, for they were our brethren. It
was not long after I began to truly master the use of herbs that I met my
next mentor.

Asguard, the warrior of truth and justice, happened upon me one day and a
kinship was born. We weren't brothers, but we were certainly equals.  We
shared a vision of justice and world peace and we began to seek others
with like minds. With the help of my adopted step-brother Reptilian, the
mighty Judah, Arturo the righteous and many more like them, the Rune
Knights had been born. The Knights shared a responsibility to help those
in need.  We completed many quests, went on many large adventures, and
generally just lent a hand whenever and wherever we could.

As we began to understand our connection with people and the earth, the
Rune Knights began to take on runes of our own. Mine were the Runes of
the Gray Owl, and my personal quest was to become an Archdruid, to better
serve the clan and others in this world. It was this challenge that
Asguard gave me, to become all that I could be.

I met the lovely Amecia, who took me on many a journey of discovery. We
explored new lands as we explored our relationship together. We built a
house in Ancient Roman Britania (now occupied by Alejandro) and planned
one day to marry. She helped me grow in appearance and I swear that I
glowed just from being with her. I will always remember the Valentine's
Day when I used my meager magic to create the illusion of a huge heart,
with our names in the middle. It appeared to fill the sky. *sigh* But
alas, one day Amecia left me. It appears things were not going to work
out between us after all. My heart was broken, and I began to sulk
around, losing my effectiveness in even my healing.

As time passed, Asguard was called away for a personal crusade of his
own, and I was asked top become the Guild Master of our clan. I took the
duty reluctantly, and began to seek more members as some of our original
brethren had sought their own paths. There was a lovely lass that I ran
across who I quickly invited into the fold. She fell in love with one of
my 'brothers,' but I let my own feelings for her consume me. I wasn't
content to know that they were happy together, and I began a path that
lead not only to my own destruction, but to that of our clan as well.

Banned from the Rune Knights, many of my friendships in ruins, I sought
out on a journey of self re-discovery. I wandered many worlds, searching
and searching for my moral center. I asked the Gods for forgiveness, I
asked myself for the same. I tried to make amends to those I had wronged,
but the damage had been too severe. There are some scars on the heart
that will just never leave us. I spent many many days deep in meditation,
a sort of trance did I enter for months on end. I purged myself of the
angst of a broken heart, removing all reminders of my time with Amecia,
lest they cause me more pain. No more would I carry the locket of her
hair, the jeweled rose that she made for me, or the many pictures we had
taken together. I still bear the wounded heart that I was left with,
partly from missing her and partly from my own viscous jealousy over the
love of another, but the deep scars had finally faded a bit.

And then I re-entered the world I had been dragged into by a battle not
even my own, simply a humble druid/mage, I began to venture out once
more. And then I met her. She appeared to me as a lovely green-eyed lass,
but she was so much more. We shared our stories as we wandered the world
together, seeking many minor adventures. It seems we had both been
wounded in the hearts and it was this kinship that began our new
beginnings. Eventually she revealed he name to me: Kastina. Still not
able to give herself to me fully, we continue to spend time together as
often as we can, and I find myself happy once again. This newfound joy
gave me power as well. The power and courage I once had known as a Rune
Knight began to return to me, and I began to participate in, and
eventually once again to lead large adventures. Many did I come across in
my new journeys, far too many to mention here, but they all seemed eager
to aid me in the quest I had so long been on -- to become an Archdruid.

So here I am. Finally the Archdruid that Asguard had told me I would
become if I had worked hard enough. So I thank you, Sir Asguard, and you,
Father Arturo, and of course you, Kastina the assassin (with the soft
heart that few can see), and so many more of you for your faith, support,
and encouragement along the way. Let it be known across all the lands --
Archdruid Dev Sibwarra is here and able to serve at the pleasure of the
Gods! Let not ye needy and damaged be downtrodden any longer, simply ask
for my aid, and I shall give it where I can.
