This is our last full week in the Ancient Era as next week will be split
with July 1st kicking off our trek through the Medieval Era. If you
haven't gotten off the beaten paths yet, the Did You Know section this
week may shed some helpful hints on safe ways to go about exploring and

Speaking of Did You Know... if anyone has ideas for little tips and
tricks that they use and they'd like to share, drop me either mudmail or
email with them and we'll get them added to the hints/tips command as
well as print them here as well.

Also, remember the offer is still open for tokens for travelogue pieces
on our featured areas through July and August. This is in addition to the

  /  _  \   DID YOU KNOW: Tips and tricks and little-used features

      /  /  You don't have to be a Columbus or even a Magellan to learn to
     /  /   map the world around you without sailing off the edge and into
    /__/    a deathtrap or a den of aggressive mobiles.
   /  \     You don't have to be Asimov or possess an eidetic memory in
   \__/     order to learn your way around the world just by rote.
  /  _  \   While the geography of LegendMUD reflects that of the real
 /__/ \  \  world, it is advised that you map as you explore the world for
      /  /  your own purposes and well-being.
     /  /   
    /__/    Many clients allow for automatic mapping as you travel, but
    __      don't usually provide you with a spatial sense of how the
   /  \     world is laid out.
   _____    Besides, you likely already have the two most important tools   
  /  _  \   at your disposal. A pencil and a sheet of paper. Graph paper
 /__/ \  \  can come in handy, but is not a requirement. For the most
      /  /  part, this is how builders design and build their own maps.
     /  /   
    /__/    Mazes: Finally a use for those coins you're carrying around!
    __             The trick is to drop 1* 1 coin in the first room, and
   /  \            then drop 2* 1 coin in the second room, and so on until
   \__/            you have your maze mapped out and numbered with what
   _____           exits lead where. The only risk here is not paying
  /  _  \          close attention and having your coins picked up.
 /__/ \  \  
      /  /  Avoiding Danger: If you find yourself in unfamiliar territory,
     /  /          the first thing to do is turn OFF brief and look at
    /__/           where you are. There will be warnings mentioned in the
    __             room descriptions, when you look in a particular
   /  \            direction or at particular things mentioned in the
   \__/            room. Also pay attention to the mobs around you.
  /  _  \   Avoiding Deathtraps(DTs): The EXITS command is your best ally
 /__/ \  \         when you're walking around and you're not sure where
      /  /         you are exactly. DEATHTRAPS are always lit and have
     /  /          titles in ALL CAPS so they can even be seen and avoided
    /__/           at night or if you're light is out.
   /  \     Exploration is often called dangerous, but for the cautious,
   \__/     patient and observant player it shouldn't be a problem as long
   _____    as you remember to LOOK at things thoroughly and that you can   
  /  _  \   LOOK in specific directions to get more infomation before
 /__/ \  \  stepping in that direction. The EXITS command, having BRIEF
      /  /  off and paying attention to what you are doing should make for
     /  /   safer exploration.
    __      Besides, if you're finding levelling to be slow or you're bored
   /  \     in your usual haunts, it can be quite rewarding to find a place
   \__/     no one else frequents and you might find something new.

                      A Change in Occupation

Due to the over-saturation of the seductress market of late, Aurore has
decided to go into a new line of work. Henceforth, she will no longer be
known as a bewitching seductress. Those unfortunate enough to encounter
her in their travels, will come to know her as:

Short: a saucy young miss

Long: Pistol ready, this daring miss smilingly relieves travelers of
      their gold.

There are currently 21 RP clans and 2 PK clan. This leaves open slots
for nine (9) more clans to form. For more information, read HELP CLAN and
see the clan information list via the CLANS command while logged into the
game. For a basic handbook and reference guide for players interested in
starting and running a clan, we recommend that before you even type FORM,
you visit:

With two thirds of their members involved in a skirmish of some sort this
past week, the Wardens of the King remain the most active PK clan. The
Infernals overtook the Grendels this week for the second spot, and the
Knights and Avengers came in close behind the Grendels. The Necromancers,
Society of Allies, The Syndicate, The Institute of Healing Arts and Clan
Smashum all had one member active in pkill during the past week.


In the past week there were 35 pk-related deaths involving 45 different
characters. Of those 45 characters, 12 of them were accept all and 16 of
them were PKE at the time. There were 9 pke vs pke battles that ended in
death. There are 36 PKE characters total. So come on, let's get YOUR name
up in lights! We can't report on it if you don't tell us about it!

anything else related to PK (not necessarily PK Clan related), send it

                      Fire and Dreams, part III

The large man looked at her when she gasped. 'Can I be helpin' ya, Miss?'
She knew her mouth was open, so she made a conscious effort to close it,
but words would not come to her tongue. 'Are ya alright, miss? I know
I ain't the best lookin', but I weren't thinkin' that I was that bad that
ya can't even speak after yer seein' me,' he said, trying hard not to
smile. He gave up after she blushed, laughing heartily at her

'No Sir,' she said almost too hastily, 'Not at all. You are quite
handsome.' The large man laughed again, causing the crimson tint to touch
her skin again.

'Now that ya gots yer tongue back, what can I be doin' fer ya?'

'I... I...' she stammered, still staring at the braided beard and gentle
eyes, 'I just want some roasted salmon. And some bread please.'

'Well, yer in luck then. I gots some fresh salmon right here.' The man
reached over and used a rough spatula to put a large roasted salmon onto
a platter. 'An' min kone made some fresh bread this mornin too, eh.' He
put a small loaf of fresh bread on the platter with a knife for her to
cut what she wished off. 'Bah! Fergot the butter... min kone is always
after me to remember it.' She chuckled as the large man lumbered off into
a back room and came back with a dish of butter. 'Fresh churned today. I
bought it, but the kvinne that made it makes good butter.'

He then did something that she did not expect. He raised a large,
calloused hand up and slammed it to his forehead. 'I be sorry, miss.
Sometimes I mix my languages... Min kone means...'

'My wife,' she said, interrupting without meaning to. He looked at her,
not saying anything. 'And kvinne is woman...' she said quietly.'

'Yer knowin' my tongue?' the large man said, raising an eyebrow at her.

'Some,' she said, 'but it has been too long since I was taught it, little
but that and one other phrase do I truly remember without much thought.'

'What's the other phrase?'

She chuckled as she looked up and said, 'Jeg elsker Deg!'

'Ja, that be a good one.' He smiled and said, 'Can I be gettin' ya
anythin' else?'

'I think I have all I need, for the time being. What is your name, sir?'
she asked, thinking she already knew the answer.

'Gad Magnusson, miss, and yers?'

She shook her head, the wine must have been strong indeed. 'Syrin,' she
said, after a long pause.

The man smiled and said, 'That be a good name. Feel free to look around.
If'n yer needin' anything else, lemme know.' He walked back to his forge
and took three rods of iron and began heating them to forge another

She watched him work for a long while, then decided it was time for her
to be on her way again. She waved good-bye. 'Adjo' he called out as she
walked through the door. She stopped suddenly as she almost walked into a
young man of roughly 25 years. He wore dark armor, and runic tattoos on
his arms. She recognized them as the valnott runes, the rune of Odin.

'Unnskyld meg, froken.' The young man said.

'No, excuse me, I didn't mean to almost run into you.' she said

He smiled as he stepped past her and entered the shop. 'Far, er De her?'
he called.

Again she gasped, 'No,' she thought quietly, 'I couldn't be....'


           A Saiyan's Pride...Chapter 2, Section 1: By Enhander

One year had passed since Joe and Kim died. I now lived a rural place
called Ireland. It was hard for me to leave the old house on the
mountain, but I went back to it every so often just to keep things
organized. I visited Joe and Kim's grave sites many times. I was amazed
at this planets response to death. After learning a lot about the history
of this planet I found out that there was a great deal more left to this
planet that I had yet to discover. I lived in Ireland for 2 years. In
that time I became adept to modern society and their strange ways. I
studied history books and tons of literature. One thing I noticed,
however, was that no one knew how to fly. These people were so weak
minded that they couldn't go faster than their brains told them too. In
fact, flying myths were left to those called Super Heroes. I thought it
all to be quite funny. I was out to buy groceries one day when a
beautiful woman walked up to me and began a conversation.

Woman: 'Hi! You look like you need help, mind if I lend you a hand?'

Not being the one to turn down such an offer, I accepted.

Woman: 'My name's Sara.'

I told her my name, I could tell she knew something wasn't right about

Sara: 'Hmm, You're not from around here are you?'

I hesitated.

Sara: 'It's ok, I came here about a year ago to check out all the land
marks, I liked it so much, I stayed.'

She chuckled as a big smile went across her face. I nodded cause I wasn't
sure what to say. When she seen me in a state of disarray, her expression
changed to that of a question. She leaned close to me and whispered.

Sara: 'You're not even from this planet are you. You're one of those

I stalled and I could feel my face turning red.

Sara: 'It's ok,' she giggled and continued 'But I would like to learn a
bit more about you if you don't mind? How's my place at 7?'

I didn't want to say no to such a pretty face so I accepted and asked her
'Where's this My Place at?' She laughed.

Sara: 'Sweetie, I meant my house.'

I didn't know what to say.

Sara: 'Ok, how about your house?'

I nodded, she smiled.

Sara: 'Ok,' she quickly pulled out a small piece of paper and wrote her
number on it, then continued, 'I gotta go now, my class starts in 5
minutes, but call me at 4:00 and give me directions.'

She got another big smile on her face, kissed my cheek while giving me a
hug and then left. I was confused. I went home in a blur of thoughts.
After packing the groceries away, I laid on my couch and fell asleep.
