Things have been crazy at our house lately. Nothing like doing four years
of maintenance in two months as we try to get it ready to put on the
market. In case you haven't heard, Ptah got a promotion and we'll be
moving to San Diego, CA as soon as we get this house sold and find one
out there, but we can't even start looking out there until we have a
contract in hand for this one because of the differences in the markets.
Also because of that we don't have a definite deadline date, which is
frustrating, to say the least.

So that's where I've been and why the LT has been a bit sporadic and I'm
so far behind on Q&A logs right now. This next week is going to be bad
too, we have to decide what we want to put into storage, what we want to
keep and what can go out on the curb for the trashmen or whomever.

So what this means right now in terms of the LT is that the more you do
ahead of time, formatting articles to 73 columns, with no smart quotes, 
and single spaces between sentences, the faster and easier it is for me
to put together each week. When there's sufficient player and other imm
articles, the issues are more interesting than just another repeat of the
same old boring facts and summaries each week.

      /  /  There have been a few changes to the color support recently.
     /  /   Clan channels can now be configured more like other channels
    /__/    with separate color slots for Clan Name (#25), the person
    __      sending the message (#26) and one for the message (#27).
   /  \
   \__/     Two other new color slots (#28 and #29) were added to make it
   _____    easier to see text that is configured in the same color as
  /  _  \   the bacckground that you use. For example, if you set #28 to
 /__/ \  \  the same as your telnet client's background color (this won't
      /  /  change your client's background, only lets the game server
     /  /   know what you use) then you can use #29 to set which color
    /__/    you would prefer that color text be sent to you instead.
    __
   /  \     For example, if your client uses black as its background...
   \__/     anything people define as color 0 will be invisible to you.
   _____    So you can define color #28 as 0 and color #29 as something

                     Meet the New Immorts: Nestor

Nestor, Chris in real life, has been playing on Legend since January
1995. Born and raised in Paris, France he was probably the only French
player (along with his best friend Lyu - Egami's player) of Legend's
history.

Chris has always been attracted to the playerkill side of LegendMUD and
played an active, more or less successful, part among the last 9 years
battles. If you ever wonder what can be fun in being a playerkiller, ask
him!

When he first logged in from Agrabah, Nestor's player was a single
student in a French engineer school in electronics. He remembers he was
scared by the desert and took him 3 weeks of play to dare adventuring
beyond it.

Chris now is 29 and frequently has his two kids playing with the little
shiny reset button of the computer when he's building his area file -
guess time changes!

Nestor's short term project is to build Ancient Carthage. Carthage was
built as a Phoenician colony some years before the Trojan war. Legend
says that Dido fled Tyre in Phoenicia from her mad brother Pygmalion and
settled a city on northern African shores that would soon rule by sea the
whole Mediterranean.

Ancient Carthage is going to be a land of adventure and quests,
influenced by the Semitic and Caanite cultures as well as the Greeks. Be
ready to wander its hanging gardens, hunt the Lybian lion on top of the
Megara Plateau and if you're brave enough dare to enter the Temple of
Moloch where rumours say mad cultists sacrifice human beings!

As you may or may not be aware I have been elected as Mr Kaines attorney
and have reviewed much of the information he has provided regarding his
imprisonment within the castle known as Carian Trag.

Before I begin complicated and costly court proceedings I would like to

ahead of your time but it is a document most regard quite highly and
value as a means of securing a court hearing for crimes they are charged

I am no longer a woman who hates nearly everything. I am now a lady with
a bloodthirst problem, i believe some people call this 'cannibalism'.

As a child, I was abandoned, and killed people using my knowledge of
witchcraft to satisfy my bloodlust.

As I grew older and I became more powerful in the arts of magic, I became
more bloodthirsty.

Eventually I could not control it, and started eating parts of the
corpses -mostly the eyes, they taste like chicken and crunch in a most
satisfiable way.

Sometimes I use a fire attack on the already dead corpses, this cooks the
flesh and makes it more delicious.

Now I'm a powerful witch, I can accept people calling me a cannibal and I
am ok with people running away as soon as they see me.

I get lonely sometimes though, but I guess you can't have the best of both
worlds.

                Smashum Celebrates Third Anniversary;
         Intempesta Nox and Knights of Legend Celebrate Fourth

October seems to be a good month for forming clans. Clan Smashum
celebrated their third anniversary of forming on October 5th while fourth
anniversaries were celebrated by Intempesta Nox on October 10th and the
Knights of Legend celebrated their reforming under the free form clan
system on October 15th.

Clan Smashum is for people who 'no think good' and their friends. It is
RP only. They originally joined together 'to try make all think better'.
They welcome all though and help when we are needed.

Intempesta Nox is community for vampires, witches, werewolves, zombies
and all types of Creatures of the Night * Intempesta Nox is currently
recruiting. If you are a Child of the Night (or wish to be), contact

The Knights of Legend is one of Legends oldest clans formed to protect
the innocent and stay honorbound. Ever striving to better themselves and
Legend. The Knights are an honorable gathering of persons whom seek to
protect the residents of the world of Legend.

           The Syndicate Had Better Watch Their Backs....

Fortebraccio was very unhappy to learn that Drakkon, member of the
Syndicate, was taking peeks up his precious girlfriend, Shelbi's skirt.
Shelbi came to Fortebraccio very disturbed and upset about the incidents.
Fortebraccio was very unhappy to learn that not only was Drakkon sneaking
peeks, but he was telling his clan to take those peeks as well. These
goons don't seem to understand that no one is to be grabbing peeks or
anything else off of his love.

Upset by this incident, Fortebraccio confronted Drakkon, who only made
the situation worse by saying he'd continue to do whatever he pleased to
Shelbi, including trying to kiss her right in front of Fortebraccio!
Fortebraccio engaged in combat with Drakkon, and Shelbi assisted. Garet
came to Drakkon's defense in this war, essentially letting the Grendels
know that he felt it was okay for the Syndicate to act in this manner.
When he showed up in Drakkon's defense, he was too late, but took shots
at both Fortebraccio and Shelbi. The first battle fought left the
Syndicate with the distinct impression that this was not behavior that
the Grendels would be willing to accept.

Fortebraccio, on behalf of the Grendels, has called war on the Syndicate
until they understand that it is not okay for this behavior to continue.

Three weeks ago there were 126 pk-related deaths involving 44 different
characters. Of those 44 characters, 16 of them were accept all and 20 of
them were PKE at the time. There were 104 pke vs pke deaths (84 of those
were in a string of multi's).

Two weeks ago there were 170 pk-related deaths involving 47 different
characters. Of those 47 characters, 19 of them were accept all and 27 of
them were PKE at the time. There were 136 pke vs pke battles that ended
in death (91 of those were in a string of multi's).

This past week there were 49 pk-related deaths involving 34 different
characters. Of those 34 characters, 13 of them were accept all and 19 of
them were PKE at the time. There were 32 pke vs pke battles that ended in
death (15 of those were in a string of multi's). There are currently 71
PKE characters total. So come on, let's get YOUR name up in lights! We

            Out of Time... Out of Place... Out of Love?

Standing at roughly the center of the empty stage and looking out into
the darkness of the empty orchestra pit, Lord Marcel played his violin,
causing a haunting, ancient melody to resound in the old theater. The
blood of the four people ran faster with the beat of the ancient tune as
their heads dropped and they fell asleep to travel into another world
parallel to this one.

They awoke one by one. First of all Erik stood, shaking the spell off
like dust off his cloak; he seemed oddly familiar with the place. Then
Sheyda stood, staring around curiously, and then Lord Marcel himself,
casually. Last on his feet was Jakov who peered around quietly,
shuddering to himself at the sight of red-garbed Mephistopheles, complete
with trident and all.

'Nevermind the residents,' Lord Marcel said without tension. 'They're
just also taking advantage of this little place to discuss a contract.
Now, one of the advantages of Hell is that we did away with language a
long time ago so you should be able to understand each other fine here.'

Quietly, Jakov asked, 'Vhat is sis place?'

'It's Hell, duh,' Lord Marcel told him. 'Or rather, an antechamber of
it.'

Sheyda blinked, looking at Jakov with surprise as she found that she
understood his words; for one accustomed to living among people not
understanding her nor she them, this was quite a relief and surprise at
once. 'You speak Persian!' she exclaimed.

Jakov turned and replied, also surprised, 'I do not!'

'But I understand you!' Sheyda exclaimed.

'And I understand yu as vell,' Jakov agreed to the obvious.

'Let's get the popcorn,' Lord Marcel suggested to Erik. 'The drinks, the
pillows, and whatever else a good audience needs?'

The fate-ridden, half-masked man nodded. 'Ah, yes.'

Unknown at exactly whose command a little, two-tailed imp scooted in from
nowhere in particular to deliver drinks and snacks right and left before
running off into the darkness again. Lord Marcel flopped himself down
with a drink and made himself digustingly comfortable. Erik moved his
fingers around the wall, and with a little click, a tiny compartment door
fell open to reveal a box of chocolates.

Jakov did not notice -- he was busy staring at Mephistopheles, still
haggling with Faust. 'He is quite scary,' he said.

Lord Marcel shrugged. 'Oh, you're not by far important enough to warrant
his attention, don't be afraid.'

'Good... I guess,' Jakov frowned. Then he glanced at Sheyda who smiled at
him. 'So vhat vere yu tryink tu say before?'

I was... Well if you've missed me... Why haven't you kissed me yet?' the
Persian girl asked.

Jakov frowned again. 'Because... I should not.'

Lord Marcel inserted helpfully, 'I'll kiss you any time, just say when.'
He helped himself to the nougat piece in the box.

Sheyda ignored him. 'Why not? Didn't you just say that you love me?'

Jakov stuttered, barely audible, 'Uh... Because I... Uhm... Just can
not!' He frowned again, then added, 'I do.'

'Why can't you? Don't you want to?' Sheyda quickly breathed on her hand
and smelled it. No, bad breath was not the problem.

'I vant tu...' Jakov mumbled quietly.

'Then why can't you?' Sheyda took his hand and held it gently, seating
herself close to him. Next to them, Lord Marcel helped himself to the
other nougat piece too.

'Because I promised...' Jakov mumbled, and trailed off.

'You promised?' Sheyda asked. Lord Marcel chuckled. Erik said nothing.

'And it is not fair...' Jakov continued quietly.

Sheyda gave him the I can guess who look and Lord Marcel nodded as she
let go of Jakov's hand. 'Apparently she means more to you than I do...'
Sheyda said sadly.

Jakov protested, 'It is different.'

'I bet,' Lord Marcel smirked, clearly at ease. Jakov glowered at him.

'How?' Sheyda asked, staring at her slippers as if she was but wondering
whether she should have them cleaned and mended.

'Eh, don't blame your wishy-washyness on me, kiddo, I don't leave women
in doubt as to what I want from them,' Lord Marcel instructed the lad.

'She needs me to tu stay... Well... Uh... Stay as close tu decency as I
can keep her,' Jakov attempted to explain.

'Why?' Sheyda simply asked, her eyes slightly misty.

'Vell... Because.'

'So you don't care about me because I don't have a problem with keeping
to one man?' Sheyda told him, tears welling up in her eyes. 'With finding
a real job? Because I just want you to love me and would be happy if you
did!'

He mumbled, almost a whisper, 'I do. I mean, I love yu... But...'

'You care more for her because she tests you constantly?' Sheyda
demanded. 'Because she makes you sad, then happy? Is it because you
cannot feel alive unless you are sad?'

'No.' Jakov sighed. 'Sat is not it.'

'Then explain it to me... I have time to listen.'

'She gives it for free?' Lord Marcel suggested.

Jakov said, 'But I just did!'

'You love her more because she needs you?' Sheyda asked tearfully.

'I do not love her more,' Jakov protested.

With unaccostumed crudeness, Sheyda spat on the ground in front of him.
'Clearly her wishes rank higher than mine on your fulfillment list. So
you must care for her more.'

'No,' Jakov said. Then, 'Yes. I mean no. I mean yes, but sat is not vhy.'

'Then why?'

'Vhat do yu vant me tu do? Yu can be happy vitout me.'

'That's Human Male for I'm dumping you, feel sorry for me, I believe?'
Lord Marcel said.

Sheyda said sadly, 'How do you know?'

'In fact look at all se people likink yu,' Jakov explained and pointed at
the audience of two, making certain to glare at Lord Marcel in the
process. 'Do not feel sorry for me... But I have tu.'

'There's a big difference between liking and loving,' Sheyda told him.
'If no one likes Briarwen, maybe she should look a little deeper in the
mirror than to brush her hair.'

'You can stop scowling at me for your own inability to make up your mind,
kiddo,' Lord Marcel said relaxedly.

'I made up my mind,' Jakov bit him off.

'Then what's all the fuss about?' Lord Marcel asked, and Sheyda inquired:
'What is your mind, then?'

'I believe i can teach her tu look deeper in se mirror. And sat is
vhy...' Jakov trailed off again.

'If you want them both, just say that, they're big girls,' Lord Marcel
suggested.

Jakov frowned at him. 'I said it, and sey vere fine vit it... For a
vhile. I vonder vhy sat ended.'

Oblivious, Sheyda went on. 'Because you think you can make her a better
person? That is a fine goal indeed...' She grimaced.

'I can!' Jakov stated.

Lord Marcel told him, 'Me, I want every pretty woman I meet, Briarwen
included, and none of them make me sit where you're sitting now, honesty
goes quite further than you seem to understand.'

'I know it!' Jakov told Sheyda insistently but she rolled her tear-filled
eyes at him. 'I don't think she wants to be changed,' she said.

'Have I left you in any doubt as to what I want, dear?' Lord Marcel
inquired of the Persian girl.

'I do not plan tu give her a choice,' Jakov muttered.

Erik said, full of scorn, to Sheyda, 'I can easily do away with her if
you wish to employ my services...'

She ignored him and answered Lord Marcel instead. 'Not for a second!'

'Are you mad at me?' Lord Marcel asked her.

'No,' she replied. 'But I fear that you're disappointed with me.'

The Englishman shook his head, auburn curls dancing. 'Not at all, my
dear, I just consider my point about honesty proven.'

Jakov said to Lord Marcel, 'I regret if I have not had as lonk time tu
make up my mind as yu have, good Lord, vill yu now stay out of my
business!'

'I am not the slightest interested in your business except where a friend
of mine is left hanging with her pretty behind in the cold water so --
no,' Lord Marcel replied smoothly.

'So you will waste your life, never knowing if she's happy or mad at you
for some unknown reason, and never live in quiet, relaxed bliss?' Sheyda
said tearfully. 'If that is your choice, I have only one choice myself.'

'Vhat?' Jakov asked her, confused.

'To walk away and not look back,' Sheyda told him.

'No, I meant, vhat did yu just say?' he asked.

Sheyda spluttered, her emotions knotting her tongue.

Lord Marcel told her, 'Breathe, my desert rose, breathe.'

She drew a deep breath, quivering behind her veil. 'If you want to live
in an emotional rollercoaster for the rest of your life, so be it.'

'I do not vant tu, I have tu.'

'You only have to because you choose to.'

'Vhat kind of man vould I be if I abandon se vone person who needs me se
most? Vhat choice is sat?' Jakov demanded, frustrated.

'A quite normal one,' Lord Marcel muttered quietly.

'The way she's treating you, a sane man.' Sheyda snorted and turned
around, full of melancholy.

'I am glad yu understand,' Jakov said quietly.

Sheyda spun around. 'I don't! But as that is what you want to, I'll have
to accept it.'

'Well, I'll admit that Briarwen has her definite attractive qualities,'
Lord Marcel said with a smile, netting himself another scowl from Jakov.
'Yu vill shut up about Briarven!' he said.

'Scowling at me like that doesn't make you look older,' Lord Marcel told
him smugly. 'She asked me to advertise for her, you realize.'

'She did not!'

Lord Marcel flicked his fingers and fished a photograph of a decidedly
undressed Briarwen out of apparently nowhere, toying with it a bit. 'Ask
her, silly,' he said. 'Or think I mugged her for that picture, suit
yourself.'

'I promised not tu ask her about yu again,' Jakov muttered.

'The way she's got him tied around her little finger, he'll believe
that!' Sheyda exclaimed angrily to Lord Marcel. 'Even if she tells him
otherwise!'

'Believe vhat?' Jakov asked, surprised.

Sheyda snorted.

Lord Marcel shrugged. 'You see, my dear, I don't give a hard-boiled egg
what he believes about me. If he prefers to think I mugged or even raped
Briarwen, fine by me.'

'A half-boiled egg, then?' Sheyda asked with a slight hint of a smile.

'Naw, not even that. Briarwen and I have a perfect understanding,' Lord
Marcel told her. 'She's a whore, I'm a rake, what's to misunderstand?'

'Do not sink I am stupid, of course yu did not have tu do sat... Nobody
has tu,' Jakov told him quietly.

Sheyda rummaged in her sable hide bag and fished out a pair of fan-shaped
earrings. With scorn she threw them at Jakov's feet, then turned her back
on him. Even Lord Marcel winced at that.

Jakov bent down to pick the earrings up and looked at them curiously.
'Vhy are yu srovink sese?'

'I don't want anything to remind me of you!' she replied.

He fiddled with the earrings, making them jingle. 'Ses do?'

'You give women gifts all the time that mean nothing I suppose!'

'I did not give yu sem!'

'You did too!'

There was a moment of silence. Then Sheyda turned and glanced at Jakov
again. 'Goodbye.'

He hesitated as if grasping for something to say to change her mind, then
gave up. 'Goodbye...'

'I am ready to leave...' Sheyda told Lord Marcel who nodded
unperturbedly.

And while Sheyda unconsciously rubbed her hands as if to wash them of the
situation entirely, Lord Marcel wove that spell of magic with his violin
and the ancient tune sent the four people back into the mortal realms
once again. Behind them, the netherworld seemed just a little colder.

                        THAT Is Not A Housepet

Rillifane Corlan Windstrom de'Dannan stared off ahead of him, his entire
body stiff as a board. He looked a tad paralyzed...

King Rowane chuckled. 'It's ok my boy, he won't hurt you. You won't hurt
him, right?' He motioned for the golem to agree. It forced a smile and
nodded, it's massive head swiveling around nearly completely to look at
the small boy perched on it's shoulders. It was tremendously tall, it's
head was turned completely around, and it's fake smile showed rather
frightening looking teeth. The boy promptly screamed his lungs out.

AAARRRGGGGHHHH!

Rowane started and immediately tried to calm the panicing child. He
wanted to teach the boy about magic and creation and thought a nice
piggyback ride on a golem would be enjoyable... Both golem and boy most
certainly disagreed.

'Dahhhd...' Big grey-blue eyes and out-stretched arms aimed themselves at
the young King. 'He's SCARING me.'

Rowane reached his arms out and asked the golem to help carefully lift
the child onto his own shoulders. The feat would have been much easier if
the young boy was not flailing wildly against the hands of the golem,
whose still-turned head was causing the young boy to nearly topple over
in the attempt to escape.

A good minute or so later and Rillifane was attached to his adopted
father's head- refusing to let go, the golem was in shock after being wet
by the boy, and the King of the Bri Leith sidhe was trying to breathe
with a child glued to his face in terror.

'Yeth, I prbith ju no mur golm,' Rillifane moved to see his father's
face, allowing him to once again breathe. 'I promise,' Rowane repeated.
'No more golems until you are ready. Ok?'  He hugged the child lovingly
to him.

'Yes,' agreed the shocked, soaked,  rather monotone-sounding golem.
'Please, no more golems for a while.'

        It Was The Best Of Times, It Was The Worst Of Times??

Queen MoiraGwyn finished writing her list and stood back to scrutinize
it. 'What else is needed right now, just more guards? Should we worry
that Ashimar isn't back yet from his trip?' She glanced over her shoulder
at her friend. 'You know I really don't like this. I can't help but
wonder if Kaine is involved.'

Emrysia being back in the castle was still new. Neither of them adjusted
just yet to feeling comfortable despite the fact that Emry's room, as
always, remained upstairs near MoiraGwyn's.

MoiraGwyn glanced around Ashimar's room as if to find something to prompt
her memory. She studied her scribblings and scratched something out,
adding more beneath the scribbled words. 'I know I am missing positions
on this silly list,' She sighed. 'This was easier when someone else did
it for me...'

Lady Emrysia laughed, 'Yes, but not so easy for me and I was the one who
did it!' The two grinned at each other.

She handed Emrysia the paper while she hunted through the drawers for
proper quill and a scroll of paper. Emry smiled and glanced over the
paper. It appeared to be a list of immediately available positions for
the Kingdom. Guard, Dungeon Guard, Captain of the Guard... Emrysia mused
that MG really should hold Queen's Championship already, why was she
putting it off? And she wasn't all too sure about that newcomer she saw
in the castle- what was his name again??

Her eyes continued down the list, halting at one particular job opening.
She felt the skin of her smile go taut. Chancellor?? Her throat went dry.
But how could this be, I mean... She and the Queen had not spoken of the
position since Emrysia stepped down but this was the last thing she
expected. Feelings welled up inside of her. It was true she never
mentioned it at all to MG, and she did expect to be asked back to the
job. Somehow she just presumed things would maybe.. magically fall back
into place? Emrysia swallowed her feelings down hard and excused herself
for a moment.

Around the corner, in the office of the castle, she cried.

                  Little Girl, Where Do You Go Now?

She walked along the beach as she did so often, letting her thoughts
drift back to the other night. A night filled with frustration, some joy
and in the end, a broken heart.

She knew for certain now that Jakov didn't love her. Quite possibly he
never had. She had failed to accept it before now, even when it had been
obvious all along that he cared so much more for the....disease-ridden
whore!....than he cared for her.

She sighed. Treacherous heart, urging her to run back to, back into that
room where they could understand each other by some strange magic, and
beg him to forget her harsh words and let her occupy a small space of his
life again.

She would not stoop that low. When it had been clear who he really loved,
she had thrown his gift at his feet, turned around and said goodbye. She
had almost managed to walk away without looking back too.

The sun was setting, setting the waves aflame before growing weaker and
disappearing beyond the horizon.

She opened up her medical book. Funny that such a small organ could cause
a whole body to ache? She wondered, if it would ever heal?
