A PK Interference Question, and an Answer

Hi all,

In a quite heated discussion recently on chat I pointed out that I currently
refrain from healing enabled. I also pointed out that I rather recently
presented a hypothetical case, asking if that hypothetical case constituted
interference in pkill. The case was perfectly clear to me - and in fact to
every mortal on line - yet none of the immortals seemed prepared to give it a
clear "Go".

LadyAce then pointed out - and of course rightfully so :) - that since she
wasn't familiar with the details, I had her at a disadvantage. I didn't want
to pursuit the matter on chat, partly because there was another discussion
going on in parallel, partly because presenting matters on chat only makes
things available to those who happen to be on line at the moment. So I'll
present them here instead.

The hypothetical case I have presented was as follows:
A character asks me for a potion. As I always do in such cases I ask if the
requester is enabled. He says yes, and immediately adds that he wants the
potion for mob killing only though. I say fine, in that case I'll make you a
potion. I do so and hand over the potion to him. He quaffs the potion, and
practically in the same moment he's jumped by another pkiller. As I didn't
see the jumper till he attacked -he was either sneaking or invisible - I
couldn't say if he saw me handing over the potion or not. Anyway, as things
turned out, my *potion* did indeed participate in pkill. All said
hypothetically of course :)

So the question I asked on chat was: In case such as this, would it be
possible to accuse me of interference in pkill. Or, since accusations are
always possible I suppose, would it be possible to find me guilty of such an

To me it was perfectly clear that I could *not* be found guilty of such
interference. And so it seemed, I repeat, to every mortal on line. One of
them even accused me of paranoia :P ;) Yet not one of the immortals - and
there were six of them visible on line! - dared to give it a clear go. They
all said: "It depends", "Depends on how polite you are if you get caught" and
things like that.

Sandra responds:

The situation brought up by StrongDruid is an interesting one. While I'm sure
that accidents like this are quite likely to happen, one does need to know
where they are in regards to the rules of the pk/nonpk environment.

The situation, in my eyes, would be accidental in regards to the nonenabled
giving the vial. I would, essentially, lay blame on the two enabled
participants. If the attacker wishes to cry foul, and the victim was unaware
of the potential attack, then the attacker basically just showed up at a bad
time. Or, if the victim knew he was being hunted, and lied to the nonenabled
brewer, then the victim would be the one in trouble. However, if it's a
constant thing, where the same nonenabled is brewing vials for pkillers who
suddenly get attacked, then, of course, one becomes more suspicious about
these situations.

If the participants become abrasive, and defensive in their responses to
questioning them about the situation, then it becomes easy for any immort
investigating to feel that the defensiveness in such responses could be a
sign of guilt and/or frustration.

The short of it is, as a community, we rely on all people in it, whether
or not they are enabled, and we trust those same people to be honest in
their behaviour, whether one wants to admit that or not. If a person
becomes dishonest in their behaviour, then we begin to have problems.

I hope this answers the question that StrongDruid has asked. In the
future, though, it would be best to probably mail an admin immortal, or
talk with them via tells regarding specific rules questions, as it's their
job to know these rules and answer questions concerning them. I,
specifically, am always available to answer such questions, whether by
tells, mudmail or email.

Welcome to the second edition of a new column, where you can tell the mud
about something another character did this week on Legend that made you feel
good. The best entry each week will win a token each for you and the
character you tell us about. Send your anecdote to LadyAce via mudmail, or

This episode's report comes from Gondar, and concerns Tarn.

I had tried to kill the Father and Mother NE of the smith in Tara. Due to
mana depletion, I was unable to, and was killed (hp weren't full either).
Needless to say, my prestige dropped, and I was over rent. As a matter of
fact, when it autosaved as I was recovering my eq from my corpse, it failed
due to over-rent.

I needed praise. I put out a chat, asking if anyone in or near Tara could
praise me. Almost immediately, I was answered by Tarn, who rushed right over
to the Reception and praised me to full without thought of compensation. The
things that impressed me the most was the speed at which she responded, and
the fact that only ONE of her praises failed to add to my prestige, something
that has never happened before.

                         *  PKILL NEWSFLASH! *

This week's pk column extends back two weeks. So much has happened, we're
sure that we've missed some of it, but here's the updates we do have.

Members of the DE, MoD and Grendels have been continuing their war. Gaidal,
Aginor, Dusk and Infidel have been seen fighting each other at one time or
another this week. The Hermetics have also been active this week, fighting
against the Grendel clan AND the MoD. Both Santina and Ishtar fell to Grendel
blades, on separate occasions. Roark and Love, also of the Grendel clan, have
been seen fighting Sir Semper on separate occasions.

Craven retired from pkilling last week by reaching 50 million experience, but
not before a few final battles. His ex-clan still battling on, Faqu and
Lilian have also been keeping up their war against the Knights of Legend in
battles against Vampyr and Vendetta.

The Mercenaries have also jumped into battle against the Hermetics, Larnoc,
Glimer, and their hermetic clanmates have been seen battling it out, in words
mostly, against Stewart. Rumor has it this battle is over some missing

    My pkill week, by Nestor

My first prey of the week was Semper. He decided to harass my friend Infidel
while he was leveling, all because we previously won a 2/2 fight versus him
and Vendetta. Alas, the Guildmaster of the fearless Knights of Legend was
peacefully having some rest at the Altar for like some hours. I then decided
to hunt down Imp--. After some good rounds of a big nasty brawl, Imp-- fled
to his hall in Ithaca (yeah, he was not in full shape when I first jumped).
Being disappointed (I want blood!), I went after this Hermetic mage named
TheCowboy...bah he was doing things with Ishtar in their hall. Then Groth
passed before me and I decided to chase him. Alas again, he was unclanned!!
That is the moment that Semper chose to jump me.. I was fully surprised
believing that my headbutt on Groth landed and really believing he was my
opponent until I realized Semper was...Took me some rounds to run :P Once
under the protection of our mighty Hall (thank you Grendel Prime!), I began
to heal myself.

When ready to continue my hunting, guess who I found outside the Hall:
Semper, Imp-- and TheCowboy, and they were alternating bashes on me!!! Thank
Grendel prime, Infidel and Dusk were not far and we managed to quickly avoid
their deadly blows. After many hours of healing from our wounds, we went
outside our Hall and chased the three guys. They were still in the Herms
hall... Dusk, being bored then landed a backstab on Fallen and started to
fight him, and of course, that's exactly when Semper and co. got outside
their hall. The end of the story is that Semper and the two herms died, and
Imp-- even got multied in the lag.

After this problem solved with Knights, I then turned on the mean Ministers
of Darkness. I managed to kill Cecil in the USL shop of Tudor and her friend
Default at the docks of Ithaca. These ministers are really dark-minded
persons who never realized the danger there is to dare declare a war on the
almighty GRENDELS. *flip ego*

Note: Running from pk to get an item for a friend sucks because how
surprising, the guy you were fighting often comes back to help the mob you're
killing. Should it be considered Wolfpack? :P

----------------/\/\/-Crash Course in Brain Surgery-\/\/\-------------
Body possession in 5 easy steps

The soldiers were preparing for the final charge, and everything was going
according to plan. Der Priester had been denounced, Roland had been
assassinated, his place taken by our inside man who led the rest of the
Ritter s out on patrol into a forest where the rest of our forces were waiting
for them. The gates were cracking under the battering ram, and the few guards
remaining were starved and demoralized.

The only opposition came in the form of Lord Danar, and that pesky meddler
CLeo. Danar was dispatched easily enough, but managed to hamper me just
enough for that annoying angel to get a vicious blow on me that, from what
I've heard, knocked my head open. Things might have gone from bad to worse,
had Cecil not taken the opportunity to grab most of my brains and Danar's as
well, (for what reason he took that annoying swashbuckler's brain, I have no
idea,) and was about to grab my body to go along with my brains. But since
the Light blinders were too close, he grabbed the next available one.

I woke up a time later, somewhat shorter and slower, and much much more
stupid. My dagger had been replaced by a saber, and my excellent clothes were
now those of some half-rate pirate's. Eventually, I realized that this was
not exactly me. Somehow Cecil had managed to put my brain into that foul body
of Danar's, and from what I gather, that smelly wench Elisa did the same with
my body and Danar's brain.

Neither of us were pleased. His body was a complete waste of time and flesh!
Everything was so miniscule and petty compared to mine. At least there was
the great surgeon Minako. She took us to a site in Egypt where the tools for
removing brains and such things were readily available. Gassing us both,
Minako and her two aides, Huggy and Tarn, eventually managed to switch our
brains again. Cecil now tells me that Elisa slipped a large portion of fish
into Danar's massive skull cavity. Heh.

Upon waking, Danar remarked on his aching head, craving for food and drink,
and diminutive body parts. There was a quick scuffle, which must have been
quite a sight -- two men in paper hospital gowns and fresh stitching on their
heads tussling while coming out of a ether daze.

Also, of interest. That...witchy...surgeon Minako had me sign a few papers
while under the effects of the ether...papers giving her ownership of
Kleinstadt. Even though the events in which the papers were signed is
dubious, they are legally binding. Note to all, that if this lady comes up to
you with a rag and a pen, run away quickly.

In short, this is a reminder to all troops to watch where your brains are at
all times. We don't need any more accidents like this, while we are still
securing victory.

In His name,
Grand Avatar

                   The Steadily Gathering Darkness

The thunder crackled overhead as the skies darkened and the clouds rumbled
with anxiety. The sky itself seemed to come alive that night, and why not?
It was time for the end to begin, so they might as well get anything they
always wanted to do out of the way. Now, I had to assemble the soldiers and
begin the conquest. This is a good day to kill. I mount my horse, and motion
to one of the commanders, Cecil, to gather his troops and have them prepare
to take the cities from London to Casablanca, and onward to Macao.

He rides off, and I gather my own troops. Patiently, they sharpen their
weapons and carve their staves. Quite a collection before me, heh. The riders
on their horses, the infantry on their feet, and the bombers on their birds.
I never did ask where Aginor found that species, but I made those little
bundles of fun they'll be dropping myself. The soldiers themselves are quite
the spectacle. Some are just humans who have seen the truth of Evil. Others
are the freshly and not so fresh risen dead. Even some of the horses are
dead, and quite ripe. And others.. well, the others are something that should
never be seen by mortal eyes. This will be fun.

I lead them into the forests of Sherwood, motioning some towards the castle
of Nottingham, and others to cross the seas to Norway and meet up with the
regiment there. Myself, I ride through the forests with the remains, and it
is beautiful. They fall to the tides without a struggle, some taking to their
heels and running, all while screaming like every fear ever imagined had
manifested into what was behind them. Which has happened, in fact. Quite
amusing, in a way.

When we approach the inn of that fat slime Richard, his defender appears.
That pesky angel CLeo, in all his trappings, steps forward and says "You
cannot upset the balance, Ronnie," or something to that effect. I laugh at
him a moment before turning to Richard. As I almost expected, he plays a
cheap trick and blasts me from behind. As I turn, another blast. This is
quite enough, I think, as I deliver my own punch, nearly sending him through
the wall. There are other things to deal with, so back on the horse and off
into the night. To think, night at noontime. Is anything else so beautiful?

As I expected, the cities of a industrial time fall so easily. Corruption is
rife among them, and there are many new recruits to report the next day. My
darling little Lilian finds use, taking the compound away from the druids as
a new ally appears. The former enemies of the Unholy Alliance appear to take
the Tara compound. Another victory among many.

All falls in a tide of red and black, screams fill the air before being
replaced by the sounds of dead flesh. Only the towns of Agrabah and
Kleinstadt put up any resistance.

Klein, its only saving grace is its tough stone walls. I arrive just as my
men are taking care of the last fighters left outside when the gates closed.
Several nests of archers and riflemen are stationed around, picking off the
tower guards. Beautiful.

Agrabah, well, Agrabah has another defense completely. Every time a soldier
approaches the road past the desert, he just combusts. I suspect those foul
Hermetics are at work here, possibly some other misguided sorcerer. Oh well,
in time all will be mine.

The captured who refuse to accept the Dark Lord are taken to the former druid
compound. It's quite a nice spot, with the nearby bog for the disposal of the
dead. Hundreds of prisoners are marched into our specially constructed water
towers, sent to drown or to starve to death after the bodies of the dead are
eaten. Others are tortured for their knowledge, their flesh stripped away
with the finest of science while being kept alive by the finest of magic. We
know all, and there is no secret that can be kept from our torturers.

I hope this letter will give the forces of Evil the inspiration they need to
keep things in our control as we prepare to summon the Dark Lord. And also, I
hope it will finally pound an idea of what's going on into the skulls of the
Light blind who refuse to see.

Hugs and kisses,
The Avatar of Evil,
Warboss Ronnie Valthalas

Hello Legendites!

For you this week, someone from the dark side of the world: Lilian.
She is a follower of the dark but is nevertheless very nice!

     Have fun reading!

Name: Lilian McGinty, Dark Lord's darling
Occupation: Minister of Darkness

Q - 'What made you decide to become a minister of Darkness?'
A - 'That's a tricky question. As you know, I have always had an affinity
with the Dark Enforcers. But the difference between being an Enforcer and
being a Minister is that an Enforcer 'enforces' what law has already been
laid down. A Minister 'administers' and therefore, being a Minister gives me
more freedom to work for my Dark Lord in the manner I please.'

Q - 'What would your dream house look like if you could build it?'
A - 'My dream house would be very similar to Flagg's house. It is
very stylish and his suburb extremely desirable. Of course, lots of
velvet sofas - purple or red in color - with a great kennel of
hellhounds out back and the evil guardian as my butler.'

Q - 'What is your favorite meal?'
A - 'Filet of Templar, roasted to perfection.'

Q - 'If you could describe yourself as a kitchen utensil, what would
it be?'
A - 'I'd have to say a rolling pin - I pound hard, leaving people flat
and lifeless afterwards. That, of course, was meant in the cleanest
sense... This IS a family MUD after all. *Scuffles feet around*'

Q - 'What is one of your best dreams?'
A - 'To get a Sandra doll that shoots arrows, AND a Northstar action figure
with all accessories. Oh yes, and to extinguish the light forever.'

Q - 'What is one of your worst dreams?'
A - 'My worst dream would have to have been when I dreamed I turned to the
light, and Tancred fell in love with me *shudder*. I awoke screaming, sweat
running in rivulets down my body.'

Q - 'What is your favorite animal?'
A - 'Cloud_Kitten! *Waves Cloud_Kitten's soul*'

Q - 'If you could travel back in time to undo something, what would it be?'
A - 'Then I would have to say, I would undo committing suicide over Ronnie's
faithlessness. It just wasn't worth the pain of what the Dark Lord did to
send me back *shudder*.'

Q - 'If I could grant you a wish, what would it be?'
A - 'To make me a good pkiller. That way I could whip everybody's butts
who've beaten me over the last 2 years.'

Q - 'A few words of advice for our readers?'
A - 'Forsake the light. Say your prayers to the Dark Lord every night. Eat
your greens, and always wear clean undergarments.'
That concludes another edition of "Who?" I would like to remind you
that most of the people interviewed were picked randomly.

I am open to interviewing people on requests as long as there is a good
reason (example: the person is well known, is a GM, is an old legend
player, is a person who achieved something extraordinary or other
valuable reasons).

I do give myself the right to decline requests if be needed, but doubt I
will decline any.

Do not forget that you may send in some questions that you would like me
to ask to my guest. Just take a piece of paper, write them down, and
mud mail it to me.

Until next time... May luck be on your path forever!
