Originally known as Yerba Buena, the city was renamed San Francisco on January 3rd, 1847. A little over a year later it was transformed nearly overnight when James Marshall's discovery of gold in the South Fork of the American River at Sutter's mill on January 24, 1848, started the great rush of fortune seekers to California. Gold became the irresistible magnet and nothing could check the insistent rush. Laborers, clerks, waiters, servants, all disappeared as if by magic, and melted into the stream of feverish folk headed for the slopes of the Sierra. In 1849, 40,000 immigrants arrived at the rate of one thousand per week by sea alone in San Francisco and three-quarters of them headed for the mines. Many came from South America, the islands of the Pacific and Australia and in droves from the Eastern States by way of Cape Horn.
Gold Rush San Francisco is a modern city set in the Industrial Era. As such, adventurers who choose this as their home will be able to learn the more modern skills like the use of pistols and rifles. In fact, adventurers from here will find special techniques like 'two gun' and 'pistol whip' available only to them. Relying more on their firearms, folks from San Francisco will find that their abilities with a blade aren't the equal of some of the other hometowns like Kleinstadt. Modern medical practices like surgery will also be available as an option for San Franciscans. Magic is completely unheard of here, as is Herbalism and the druidic skills.

Below is the start of one of the many quests available in the city of San Francisco:
It is election time in San Francisco, and the most important office on the ballot this session is for mayor. Casey is the incumbant, and you'll find him travelling around town: shaking hands and rallying support to his campaign for re-election.
When you enter the room he is in, he'll quickly shake your hand and ask if you are planning to vote for him. If you ask him about the election (ask mayor election), he'll send you to see his secretary for a ballot.
Jason Stotler, the mayor's secretary, can be found in the Mayor's Office on the west side of town. Find him and ask him about the election. And from this point on, the quest is yours to figure out.

San Francisco Area MapThis map shows the immediate surroundings of your hometown. Individual rooms are not marked: This is only a general guide to help orient yourself as you begin to explore outside the safety of San Francisco. Some points of caution are marked, so be careful when exploring around those points!
Industrial Era MapThis is the 'Industrial Era', as represented currently in LegendMud. The colored areas are areas that currently are included in the MUD. Red lines are used to indicate regularly used paths of travel (they are not necessarily the ONLY paths one can take). Each of the colored rings indicates a separately defined area in the Industrial Era. A list of these can be viewed in-game by typing 'AREAS'.
