Celtic Ireland is a verdant land, home to master druids, enchanted creatures, and legendary warriors. The town of Tara sits within those lands and consists of a large hilltop fort or 'Dun' surrounded by a large collection of homes and markets. The Sidhe, or fairies, control a large section of wilderness outside the town gates. Druidism is prevalent, and a band of druids lives in a large compound near the town of Tara as well.
First and foremost, Tara is a home for druids and herbalists. Those practicing the ways of Herbalism that get their start in Tara will find that every skill associated with this profession can be available to them. Magicians and magic users from Tara, like those from Kleinstadt, will find that the first two of the three circles of magic words will be at their disposal. They'll never match a magician from Agrabah's talents, but will eventually have a sizable arsenal of spells available. As expected, adventurers getting their start in Tara will find modern weapons and tools beyond their abilities, as will modern medical practices.

Located on the south side of town just east of the main gates, The Silver Branch Inn offers a place to rent a room for the night (for leaving the game) in the upstairs portion, a place called 'The Reception.' Very basic supplies and foodstuffs are available from Tika downstairs. There is a 'Lost and Found' box in the inn for spare items to be placed and retrieved.

The Smithy is a noisy and dirty place: the soot from the fires that keep the forges hot blankets everything in sight, including Duncan and his apprentice. The steady ringing of hammer-on-metal can be heard all over town. However: Duncan's shop is an excellent source for swords and dirks, shields and armor or all shapes and sizes.
The Smithy is located on the east side of Tara, just north of the town well.

Rhia's loom provides Tara's inhabitants with all manner of cloth goods. The cottage is located in the southwest corner of town. Rhia offers a decent selection of goods: from raw materials like bolts of cloth to finished products like capes, tunics, and pants.

back to topRoom description: The Captain of the Guard is here patrolling the Dun.
Beorc is the leader of Tara's guard, and an expert fighter. Not a friendly sort at all; but what he lacks in social skills, he more than makes up for in prowess in combat. He can normally be found within the Dun in the center of town, patrolling and keeping those in his command in order.
Room description: Cian, Ard-righ of Tara, stands here, enjoying a quiet moment.
Cian was once a rather legendary hero in these parts. These days find him in a political roll, working for the good of the citizens of Tara within the halls of the Dun. He's known for his kindness and compassion.
Room description: An older man is here, quietly caring for the temple.
The people of Tara follow the teachings of Dana and practice the reverence for nature and use of herbalism that are associated with that path. Wise old Donnegal manages Tara's temple and is always willing to impart his wisdom to those who seek it.
Room description: A nondescript young man lounges here, quietly putting a purse in hispocket.
Fith-Fath is not to be trusted. He's a shady character that is often seen lounging around Tara, acting as if he didn't have a care in the world. Don't buy into the act, though: Keep a close watch on your purse if he's near.
Room description: A dark, young man glowers at you from out of the shadows.
Gawain was passed over to be next in line for the throne of Tara, and he's none too happy about the situation. He slides silently through the halls of the Dun and can be rather quick to fight if provoked.

Tara offers many of the skills you will find helpful when just starting off. Below is a list of important skills for starters and people to look to for guidance for these skills. Not all of these skills may be available to you, as they are all based on a different set of pre-requisites. To see what is available to you, type 'allskills'.

Below is the start of one of the many quests available in the city of Tara:
This quest is based on a rather random occurance: A mouse wandering into the Silver Branch Inn.
Tika, the server at Tara's Silver Branch Inn, hates mice! However, Tara seems to have more that its fair share. If you happen to be standing in the inn when a mouse wanders in, Tika will react with an 'Eeek!' and say "Would somebody KILL that THING!"
You should probably give her a hand?

Tara Area MapThis map shows the immediate surroundings of your hometown. Individual rooms are not marked: This is only a general guide to help orient yourself as you begin to explore outside the safety of Tara. Some points of caution are marked, so be careful when exploring around those points!
Ancient Era MapThis is the 'Ancient Era', as represented currently in LegendMud. The colored areas are areas that currently are included in the MUD. Red lines are used to indicate regularly used paths of travel (they are not necessarily the ONLY paths one can take). Each of the colored rings indicates a separately defined area in the Ancient Era. A list of these can be viewed in-game by typing 'AREAS'.
